Through a sequence of assignments its subtle virtues become increasingly obvious. Paper bags are readily available and come in an endless variety: serviceable brown kraft paper or plain white or colored; saw-tooth edged or straight-cropped at the top; crisp brand new or used and abused, with multiple wrinkles, creases, and twists.
